"Chibi Xion" is a delightful piece of digital art that compliments a gallery that is predominantly created with traditional media. I really enjoy the youthful playfulness of the character's pose and the energy that is added to the main character with the use of brightly colored circles in the background. The transparency of what would have been designated as the remaining white space of the background also surprised and delighted me because it is something I don't see very often with works that are not made in .gif format.
I like the various thicknesses of the line art, and I feel as if the squiggliness of the lines adds to the energy of the image. The consistency in which this line art technique is executed is pleasing as well because it does not look like something just scribbled on in five seconds.
The blue swirling hues in her eyes is also lovely because it draws the viewer to her face. It also provides a contrast to the black and fall-themed colors of the rest of the image. The absence of the nose really brings out the chibiness of her face, but the head, body and limb proportioning suggested more of a teenage girl than a chibi figure. Many chibi figures have a body trunk size that is equal to or smaller than the size of the head, and for some chibis the arms and legs are significantly shorter to look almost baby-like against the sides of the body. Shortening the legs a little would help to give her more of a chibi look.
I was also a bit confused with the image's main light source. The shading of the head portrayed a light source to the upper right corner of the image, but the shading of the cloak hood and arms on the right (our right) side of the body seemed to come from a light source located on the bottom of the image. Since most of the shading points towards a upper left light source, perhaps editing the hood and right side to have shadings reflecting that would make the lighting consistent. Her face also seems to be a bit under-shaded, or not shaded at all. I think a soft spot of a whitish hue would have worked well to bring out her cheeks.
In addition to the shading, there are some colors that have smudged beyond the designated line area, such as the finger tips, near the arm pits and at the soles of the character's shoes. Also, a small area behind the right eye was left uncolored. It would have gone unnoticed without a problem, but the red of the background circle shows through so it quite noticeable. And there are some floating rouge pixels by the orange-yellow dot under the left arm side near the orange yellow dot that could be removed.
But overall I think it is an adorable image that just needs a little bit of tweaking here and there. I hope I didn't sound too harsh, I just want to see you get better at digital art so I can see more of it from you! :3
